Trip and Vacation Photo Organization Tips
Skip the photo overwhelm. These five simple pre-trip tips will help you stay organized and make it easy to enjoy and share your vacation memories.

Summer is the time for amazing trips and vacations and so many photos to document it all. We have too much fun, make so many memories and then come home tired with loads of laundry and complete photo overwhelm. We take several photos at once trying to capture that perfect expression or surprised look.
This is so different from when we had to pay for each photo to be developed and printed. We took one and prayed it was perfect. Then we waited in anticipation for two weeks for the photos to be developed. Many of us sat in a hot car so excited to see our photos because we couldn’t wait til we got home.

Eventually we got the most favorite photos placed perfectly into beautiful pages in a scrapbook album. The pages were embellished with coordinating borders and stickers. Perhaps the photos had been cropped into shapes like hearts and ovals. Some photos would remain squares or rectangles but have a scalloped border because we trimmed them a bit with our fancy scissors.
Those days are over. Now we can see instantly how the photo looks. We know if we captured the perfect moment, because we took several shots. And we have too many photos. We never get around to deleting the bad ones and don’t even make time to scrapbook and tell the story of a great trip.

Here are FIVE TIPS to do before you leave to help organize all the photos you’ll take and make it easier to tell the story so you remember the moment forever.

#1 Create Daily Folders: Set up digital folders for each day of your vacation. Label them “Day 1”, “Day 2” etc and add info of the places and activities you’ll do each day. If there’s a specific event scheduled like a museum tour, consider a sub folder for that specific event and all the info associated with it.
#2 Pre-Trip Research: Do some research before you leave about the places you’ll go. Add that info to the proper folder. This will allow you to be familiar with what you’ll be seeing and doing. You could also add the info about your hotels and places you want to eat.

#3 Daily Photo Review and Delete: Every night review the photos of the day. Add them to the right folders. Delete the ones you can’t visualize how they look on the page or go with the story you’ll tell.

#4 Capture Stories in the Moment: Add the stories and comments using talk to text on your phone. Or make a voice recording as you go along so you don’t forget details and things you want to remember about each photo and the activities of the day.
#5 Curate Contributions from Others: Let your family and friends add some of their photos and comments to each day also. But don’t let them just dump their photos into your folders. Be selective. No reason to add the overwhelm.
When you take a little time to prepare before your trip, organizing and enjoying your vacation photos becomes a whole lot easier—and even fun. These simple steps can help you not only stay ahead of the chaos but also capture the heart of your trip in a way that’s easy to revisit and share.
